LOS ANGELES – Senior setter Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had 33 assists, 12 digs and three service aces on the day, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Loyola Marymount and Cal St. Fullerton, both by 3-0 scores, in the Loyola Marymount Invitational on Saturday. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Lions improved to 2-0 and the Titans moved to 1-2.
Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) had a team-best 11 kills on the day, while Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) was close behind with 10 kills. Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) added a team-high 14 digs, while Bonnie Conklin (Plano, Texas) and Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) had three blocks each.
The Bobcats pushed the Lions progressively through three sets in the morning match. Loyola Marymount won the first set, 25-9, before taking 25-20 and 25-23 victories in the second and third sets, respectively. After falling in the first set to the Titans, 25-18, the Bobcats fell to Cal St. Fullerton, 25-11 in each of the final two sets.
Quinnipiac returns to the court Friday, when it travels to College Park, Md., to take part in the University of Maryland Invitational. The Bobcats take on Xavier at 4:30 p.m., before facing Maryland, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. They'll then take on Virginia Commonwealth at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
