Volleyball Defeated By Maryland, VCU

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) had a team-high 12 kills and Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.) added 11 kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team fell to Maryland and Virginia Commonwealth, both by 3-0 margins, on the final day of the Maryland Invitational. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Terrapins improved to 2-3 and the Rams moved to 2-4.

The Terps defeated the Bobcats, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13, while the Rams took the win with 25-15, 25-12, and 25-17 margins of victory.

Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had 40 assists, 12 digs and three service aces on the day for the Bobcats, while Krista Bennett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a team-high 14 digs. Carey and Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) had 13 digs each, while Carey and Bonnie Conklin (Plano, Texas) had two blocks apiece.  

The Bobcats play host to La Salle on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in their home opener as part of the Quinnipiac/Hartford Tournament. Matches against Navy and Delaware State follow on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
