WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had 21 assists, and sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) recorded 17 digs, but the Bobcats fell to Hartford, 3-0, Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Hartford. The match concluded the three-day Quinnipiac/University of Hartford Invitational. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-9, while Hartford improves to 6-6.
In the first set, Hartford jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 15-9. Courtesy of a pair of kills from senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) and freshman Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.), the Bobcats evened the set at 18. The Hawks took a 24-20 lead, at which Quinnipiac scored the next two points to keep the set alive, forcing a Hartford timeout. Following the stoppage, the Hawks were able to put the set away by a score of 25-22.
The Hawks took the second set, 25-16, recording 14 kills and three service aces in the process. The third set was a back-and-forth battle until Hartford took an 11-7 lead on one of Kami Nethersole's game-high 13 kills. The Hawks started to pull away, but the Bobcats were able to gain some momentum on a block by Allen and freshman Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.). Following the block, Hartford scored seven of the match's final eight points, taking the third set, 25-16.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, when the team hosts Army as part of the Yale/Quinnipiac Tournament at Burt Kahn Court. Friday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
