Women's Volleyball Defeated By Sacred Heart, 3-0, In NEC Competition
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team was defeated by NEC power Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn. The Pioneers swept the match in straight sets (25-11, 25-10 and 25-9), improving to 10-7 all-time against Bobcats.
With the loss, Quinnipiac dropped to 2-17 on the season, 1-5 in the Northeast Conference. Still unbeaten in conference play, the Pioneers improved to 16-5, 6-0 in the league.
The key to Sacred Heart's success was a quick start in each of the three games. In game one, the Pioneers jumped out to an 8-3 lead, game two featured a 7-0 advantage and in the final set SHU captured a 7-1 lead. On the match, Quinnipiac totaled 15 kills, 21 digs and a game-high five blocks.
Sophomore Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted a team-high four kills on 13 total attacks. Senior Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) added 13 assists and one dig, whereas sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the back row with 10 digs.
Kimmie Roleder and Johanna Ovsenek paced the Pioneer offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Next weekend, the Bobcats will return home for a pair of conference matches. Quinnipiac welcomes St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Oct. 15 and Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 16 to Burt Kahn Court.
