LORETTO, Pa. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team concluded its 2011 campaign on Sunday afternoon, as the Bobcats dropped their season finale to St. Francis (Pa.), 3-0 (25-16, 25-20 and 25-21), in Loretto, Pa. at DeGol Arena. The QU women's volleyball program says farewell to three tremendous senior-class members, Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.), Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) and Brittany Garrett (Ossining, N.Y.), who have now played in their final collegiate volleyball match.
Lawler and Carey leave Quinnipiac with their names implanted in the record-books, each surpassing milestones this season. With her 19 assists in today's match, Lawler completed her career with 3,314 assists, the most of any player in the history of the program. She also tallied her 150th career ace last weekend against Sacred Heart and reached 800 digs this weekend.
Carey exceeded the 1,000 dig plateau in yesterday's match, totaling 1,003 for her career. In addition to her digs milestone, she also cracked 100 blocks last weekend and collected her 953rd kill in today's contest.
Offense was the key to St. Francis' (Pa.) success in the final regular season match, as the Red Flash recorded seven aces and 39 kills. Breanna Kochinsky led the attack with 12 kills at a .354 clip and added 12 digs to complete the double-double. Elizabeth Williams also finished with double-digit kills (11), while Logan Meinert and Kierstin Kiser combined for 32 assists.
Sophomore Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted nine kills to lead all Bobcats. Freshman Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.) and Carey put together solid outings with five kills apiece and Lawler completed the double-double with 12 digs to go along with her 19 assists. Sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) recorded 13 digs on the back-row.
