HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team was defeated by Stony Brook, 3-0, at the West Point Invitational early Saturday morning. The Bobcats also dropped their final match at West Point, N.Y. to Indiana, 3-0. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-3, while the Seawolves improves to 1-1, and the Hoosiers remain undefeated at 3-0.
The Seawolves won the first set, 25-13, before taking the second set, 25-15. The Bobcats fought back in the third set and jumped out to their biggest lead of the match, 12-4. Riker began the set with two aces and sophomore outside hitter Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.) completed the run with a kill of her own. Stony Brook however regained momentum and put the match away, winning the third set, 25-20.
In the nightcap against Indiana, Quinnipiac dropped the first set, 25-15, before falling in the final two sets, 25-8 and 25-13. After her seven digs against Stony Brook, Riker followed up with another seven against the Hoosiers. Allen finished with a team-high three kills and sophomore right side Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.) recorded three blocks.
Riker was named to the All-Tournament Team as she compiled 26 digs and four services aces for the two-day tournament.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday Aug. 31 when they head to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invitational. Quinnipiac will face off against Southeastern La. on Friday at 5:00 pm before playing Akron and Montana St. on Saturday.
