HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team opened Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon, as the Bobcats welcomed Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis (Pa.) to Burt Kahn Court on Mount Carmel Campus. The visiting Red Flash came out on top, defeating the Bobcats, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23).
With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in NEC competition. Saint Francis (Pa.) improves to 6-9, 2-0 in the league.
The Bobcats were led by Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.), who chimed in with nine kills on 19 attempts. Senior Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) added six kills and two blocks and Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) paced the offense with 21 assists. Saint Francis (Pa.) was led by senior Elizabeth Williams, who posted a game-high 12 kills on the afternoon. Setter Kierston Kiser conducted a steady offense with 34 assists, spreading the ball around nicely for the Red Flash. Four other members finished with five or more kills in the match.
"First our first home game, we're pretty happy," said head coach Kris Czaplinski. "Losing is never good, but we know what we have to work on right now, and just have to look ahead to Robert Morris."
Efficiency was the difference in the match, as a .312 hitting percentage from the Red Flash offense proved advantageous. Quinnipiac committed six more errors, including a set-high eight in the opening game.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon with another home NEC match against Robert Morris. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
