HAMDEN, Conn. – For the second straight match, the Quinnipiac women's volleyball team claimed a single set victory but couldn't finish as they fell to Hartford, 3-1, from Burt Kahn Court. The Bobcats were aided by another boisterous crowd on Wednesday night as the Quinnipiac faithful cheered on their home team to their most-successful offensive output of the season (43 kills as a team). With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 2-11 on the season while the Hawks move up to 6-10.

Sophomore Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) was the offensive star for Quinnipiac on Wednesday as she posted her second career double double with 11 kills and a career high 15 digs. Freshman setter Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Ind.) continued to find the holes in the opposing defense as she posted 35 assists, six digs and two kills. It marks her second consecutive game with at least 30 helpers to give her four total on the season. Finishing off the Ogden setups was the combination of junior Tanner Celestin (nine kills, three aces), freshman Allison Leigh (eight kills, four blocks) and junior Brittanie Robinson (eight kills, 10 digs, two aces, two blocks).

The Hawks jumped out to the early lead despite strong opposition from the youthful Bobcats as Hartford claimed a 25-19 victory. Hartford's Dionna Kirton was heavily involved early and often as she posted five of her game-high 15 kills in the first set on Wednesday. Quinnipiac was also done in by their errors from the service line all evening as they committed six of their 18 service errors as a team in the first stanza. One of the bright spots for the Bobcats in the first was the play of freshman Jamie Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) who recorded all three of her kills for the match in the opening set.

The Bobcats' problems in the first were cleared up in the second as Robinson came out on fire with two kills and two aces to give her team an early 9-4 lead. After a 5-0 Hawk run made it a one point game, both sides would trade points back-and-forth throughout the middle stage of the set. With anxiety running high, Celestin used her serve to guide the Bobcats back up to a 19-14 advantage. Hartford once again answered with five straight points to again tie the score but they didn't have an answer for Celestin to close the set. The junior outside hitter ripped three kills to help the Bobcats win three of the last four points of the set and seize the 25-23 victory.

Despite coming into the third set with all sorts of momentum, not much went right for the Bobcats as they were out-killed 17-4 in the stanza. Hartford claimed 13 of the first 16 points in the set including 10 in-a-row off the serve of Lindsay Anderson. The closest the Bobcats would climb from the remainder of the set was seven points as the Hawks took a dominating, 25-12 victory.

Quinnipiac proved they weren't going to go down without a fight in the fourth as they pulled out a 10-5 lead in the early going. Leigh was the main benefactor as she ripped three straight kills for the Bobcats and continued the run with a solo block of her own. Thornton capped the run with a kill of her own but the Hawks would then seize control, claiming 11 of the next 15 points to take a 16-14 lead. Celestin smashed a kill to tie the score at 18-18 but a mini 3-0 run for Hartford created enough separation to escape with the 25-22 victory.

Two off days separate the Bobcats from their next competition as they will take on MAAC opponents Iona and Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both matches will be road affairs for Quinnipiac with each match starting at 1:00 pm.
