Emma Ogden Honored as MAAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week
EDISON, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team's freshman setter Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Ind.) has been named MAAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week after leading the Bobcats to a weekend sweep and their first two victories in the MAAC. She becomes the first Bobcat since Jenna Benigno back on Oct. 17, 2005 to win a weekly Rookie of the Week award. Ogden's Rookie of the Week honor is the first of her career after having already taken home Player of the Week back on Sept. 16, 2013.
The former MAAC Player of the Week was completely in control over the weekend as she compiled a total of 83 assists (10.38 per set average), 19 digs (2.38 per set), nine blocks (1.12 per set) and two service aces in two Bobcat victories this past weekend. Ogden stepped in from the first match of the season and has continued to improve throughout the year. Her continued improvement has translated to the court as she has recorded at least 33 assists in five of her last six matches.
Her most well-rounded game of the season came on Saturday in an upset victory over Rider, 3-1, as she went for a career high in both assists (47) and blocks (7). Her last block of the afternoon came in a thrilling match-clinching point for Quinnipiac over the Broncs as she was mobbed at center court by her teammates after her seventh denial of the match.
Ogden followed her sensational outing with 36 assists and tied her career high with 14 digs on Sunday in a 3-1 victory over Saint Peter's. The output was good enough for her third double double of the season, tops on the team.
Through just 17 career matches, Ogden has already landed herself fifth on the Bobcats' all-time assist leaderboard. Her 475 assists this season is the most for any Bobcat in program history through their first 17 career appearances. She continues to rise up the MAAC leaderboards in assists per game, moving all the way up from eighth to fifth in this week's rankings with a 7.66 assists per set average.
The Bobcats and Ogden will continue their five game homestand on Wednesday night when they welcome in Siena, currently second in the MAAC standings. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
