- Box Score vs. Bryant
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team returned home to Burt Kahn Court for the first time in nearly two weeks but couldn't make the most of their homecoming, falling to Bryant, 3-0. Senior Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) continued her strong play from the back line while freshman Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ohio) showcased some nice all-around ability for the Bobcats throughout the evening. The Bobcats fall in their final non-conference contest of the season as they drop to 4-19 (2-8 MAAC) while the Bulldogs improve to 8-18 (3-4 NEC).
Riker makes it eight matches out of her last nine in which she has gone for at least 10 digs. The Bobcats' all-time digs leader ups her season total to 288 while her career tally jumps up to 1366. Meanwhile, Urycki poured in five kills and also added seven digs in just two sets of action on Wednesday for the Bobcats. It was her most digs in a match since Oct. 6 when she went for 11 against Saint Peter's.
Freshman middle hitter Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) was the Bobcats' offensive leader with seven kills to go along with two blocks against the Bulldogs. Freshman Jamie Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) continues to climb up the team's kill leaderboard as she added six and freshman setter Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Ind.) contributed a game-high 26 assists to go along with four digs and three blocks.
Over the course of the match, Bryant's offensive hitters hit their rhythm and wore down the back line of the Bobcats. After committing eight errors in the first set, the Bulldogs totaled just six for the remainder of the match. Claire Van Dyk, one of the top hitters in the Northeast Conference, was the kill leader for the game with 12 while Elena Lohr added a double double with 11 kills and 11 digs for Bryant.
The first set was the most competitive of the evening as both sides went back-and-forth throughout the course of the action. Paolucci smashed a kill to give the Bobcats their biggest lead of the set at 11-9 and the lead would stay in Quinnipiac's favor with a kill from sophomore Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) to put her team ahead, 17-16. The decisive run for Bryant followed as they reeled off five straight points to take a commanding lead. Quinnipiac would pull back in, trailing by just one point two different times but it wasn't enough as Bryant closed out a 25-22 set victory.
The second set was decided in the early going as Bryant jumped out to a 12-7 lead that was too much to overcome for the Bobcats. They would close the gap to as few as 17-16 after Urycki pounded a kill past the middle of the Bryant defense but the Bulldogs won eight of the final 11 points to claim the set victory, 25-19.
The third and final set on the evening played out much like the first where both teams traded points throughout a majority of the set. The lead was never more than two points for either side until the Bulldogs held a 16-14 lead and won five consecutive points to take a commanding advantage. Junior Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.) did her best to keep her team in the game with a set-high four kills for the either side but her efforts weren't enough as Bryant claimed a 25-20 victory to seal the match.
Quinnipiac now will move on to conference matches for the remainder of the season starting with a road showdown with Fairfield on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
