Women's Cross Country Places Sixth Of 49 Teams At New England Championships

BOSTON - The Quinnipiac University women's cross country team finished sixth overall at the New England Championships at the Franklin Park Course in a field of 49 teams. The Bobcats were led by sophomore Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) with a 15th-place finish overall, helping Quinnipiac to 225 team points. Roche crossed the line in 18:21. Brown won the meet with 130 points.

"The women ran great today," said head coach Carolyn Martin. "There was some really good competition out on the course and I expect that we continue to improve as the season progresses."

Freshman Becca White (Natick, Mass.), last week's Northeast Conference Rookie and Athlete of the Week, was the second Bobcat to cross the line. She finished with a time of 18:21, good for 19th overall and just six seconds back of Roche. Junior Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) finished 45th overall in 18:46. Senior Lindsey Pierret (Morristown, N.J.) and sophomore Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) were the fourth and fifth members of the Bobcats to finish. Their 75th- and 82nd-place finishes were the final two scoring figures as Pierret crossed in 19:12 and Beam three seconds later in 19:15.

Quinnipiac next runs at the Central Connecticut Mini-Meet on Saturday, Oct. 24 in New Britain, Conn. The meet is set to start at noon.
