Women's Cross Country Sweeps NEC Weekly Awards

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's cross country's Becca White (Natick, Mass.) and Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) have been named Northeast Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete and Rookie of the Week, the league office today announced. White earns NEC Athlete of the Week honors after placing third at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational. The 2009 All-NEC honoree ran the 5K course in a 17:57, crossing the tape ahead of 131 harriers from a 10-team field that included five other NEC squads. White's performance helped the Bobcats, ranked No. 12 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Region Poll, earn second place on the day. She finished first among NEC athletes, registering the lone sub-18 minute finish.

Faust had a successful outing at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational to garner NEC Rookie of the Week accolades. The freshman charged home in an 18:27, good for 10th place overall and fifth among NEC runners. She was the quickest in the field of league freshmen that included her triplet sisters Brianna and Christina, both of whom also contributed to Quinnipiac's second place finish, crossing at 13th and 18th, respectively. All three Faust triplets ran in personal-best times.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they play host to the Quinnipiac Invitational. The women's race is set to begin at 11 a.m., with the men following at noon.
