Seniors Becca White and Morgan Roche Lead Bobcats to 20th Place Finish at NCAA Northeast Regional
MADISON, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's cross country seniors Becca White (Natick, Mass.) and Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished their careers in style as the Bobcats finished 20th out of 37 teams at the 2012 NCAA Northeast Regional at Hammonassett State Park. White placed 86th overall out of 250 runners to lead the way for Quinnipiac while Roche was third on the team and crossed the finish line in 108th position. The team equaled their 20th place finish from last year's NCAA Northeast Regional and completed another successful championship season. Providence won the event with 46 points.
"The women gave such a great effort today considering we had some injuries and were coming off an incredible effort at the NEC Championship," said Quinnipiac women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin. "We say goodbye to several of the program's best runners ever but our returners are all really excited about our potential and we want to keep this string going."
White shaved off nearly two minutes from her 2011 result in the 6k event as she finished in 21:49.8 compared to last year's 23:38.8 finish. The outstanding senior finished her four-year career with a banner season in which she finished first on the team in all six events she competed for the year. The three-time All-Conference runner and 2010 Outstanding Performer of the Year finished with her best time in a 6k event all season.
Junior Brianna Faust (Manungie, Pa.) finished just outside the top-100 as she crossed the line in 104th position, second on the team. Her time of 22:06.6 is much improved from her 2011 result of 23:38.3 and she jumped up 40 positions from 144th last year to 104th this season in the same 6k event. The 2012 All-Conference runner saved her best for last as she finished in 12th at the NEC Championships and second on the team at the NCAA Regional event.
Roche, consistently one of the top runners in the conference, proved her ability once again with her 108th place finish. She beat her 2011 result by more than one minute, crossing the line in 22:09.3 this season. The four-time All-Conference runner will go down as one of the premier runners in Quinnipiac history, helping the Bobcats win four NEC Championships throughout her career.
Rounding out the top-five for Quinnipiac were juniors Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) and Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.). Soja finished up her breakout season with a 132nd result while Faust was the fifth-place finisher for Quinnipiac in 157th position. Soja showed great improvement from last year's NCAA Regional, placing 28 spots higher this year compared to last. Faust finishes her season with a time of 22:58.7, besting her 2011 result by nearly 25 seconds.
