BRONX, N.Y. – Another impressive outing from Quinnipiac women's cross country freshman Niamh Ashe (East Islip, N.Y.) carried the Bobcats (122 points) to a third place finish out of 20 teams at the Iona Meet of Champions from Van Cortlandt Park. This results marks the third straight Top-3 finish for the Bobcats to start the season as they placed behind Albany (67 points) and fellow MAAC foe Iona (100 points).
"I'm very pleased with how the girls ran today," said Quinnipiac women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin. "At this point in the season we are training these girls hard and pushing them in practice. Despite the fatigue the girls all came to race today and it showed in the results. We need to see them pack up a little better moving forward to move us ahead a few spots in the overall standings but I'm really happy with the team effort put forth today."

Coming off an impressive second place showing at the Bryant Invitational, the Bobcats had another great day in which they placed ahead of USTFCCCA regionally-ranked No. 11 Brown by 35 points. Leading the Bobcat contingent on Saturday was Ashe who picked up a seventh place result in the overall standings. Ashe picked up her second Top-10 finish of the season and successfully navigated her way through a crowded field of 190 total runners. Ashe was the second-fastest freshman in the entire event and she clocked in at an impressive 22:52.88 in the 6k event.
The well-rounded Quinnipiac contingent continued with sophomore Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) who placed 21st overall with a time of 23:36.88. She finished just over one second behind Army's Katie Collins for the final spot in the Top-20 overall standings.
Campbell was at the front of the Quinnipiac on Saturday and closely followed by senior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.). Brianna crossed the finish line just three seconds behind Campbell in 25th place overall with a time of 23:39.63. Fellow classmate senior Jess Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) continued the string of Bobcats with a 31st place result. The fourth-fastest time on the team, Soja finished the Meet of Champions in 23:50.37. Senior Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) rounded out the Quinnipiac scoring with a 38th place result and time of 24:00.00.
Sophomore Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.) were also tightly packed with the Bobcat group following Ashe. They finished the 6k meet in 24:01.21 and 24:05.31, respectively. Both were less than six seconds behind Amanda in the overall standings and also placed within the first 44 runners in the event.
Now the Bobcats will take a week off before hitting the road again on Saturday, Oct. 5 for the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational at 11:45 am. Quinnipiac will look to improve on their 18th place result (out of 40 teams) from last year's Paul Short Invitational. The Paul Short Invitational will feature the most teams of any event the Bobcats will compete all season.
