BOSTON, Mass. – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team continues to surge forward into their championship season as they finished an impressive 6th overall out of 43 teams in the New England Cross Country Championships. Racing from Franklin Park in downtown Boston, the Bobcats' freshman Niamh Ashe (East Islip, N.Y.) posted an 11th place finish out of 283 competitors to land a spot on the All-New England team. Quinnipiac recorded 193 points on Saturday to finish sixth while New Hampshire won the meet with 57 points.

"We are really running well," said Quinnipiac head coach Carolyn Martin. "I was happy with today's performance. The women really ran very tough and we are starting to get ready for the Championship part of the season."

The Bobcats move up three spots from their 9th place finish in the 2012 New England Championships and had an All-New England runner for the first time since 2011 when Becca White earned the honor with a 9th place finish overall. Quinnipiac also placed ahead of a couple regional powers in Vermont (8th), Boston College (13th) and former Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart (9th).

Ashe makes it four straight events in which she has placed first among the Bobcat contingent. Her finishing time of 17:49 represented the second-fastest time among all freshmen competitors. She set a strong pace at 5:43 per mile throughout the competition and heads into the MAAC Championship two weekends from now with an All-New England distinction as she placed in 11th overall.

Senior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) posted her best race of the season with a time of 18:21 from Franklin Park. Brianna improved upon her time from last year's event by more than 12 seconds and moved up the overall standings by an impressive 32 spots (finished 62nd in 2012). Finishing a season-best second on the team, Brianna nearly broke her personal-best of 18:20 in a 5k event.

Next in line for the Bobcats was sophomore Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) who notched a 40th place result in the overall standings. In her first appearance in the New England Varsity Championships, Campbell crossed the line in 18:31, the same exact time it took the sophomore to finish the 2012 New England Sub-Varsity Championships.

Seniors Jess Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) and Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats on Saturday. Soja clocked in at 18:38 for the event, good enough for 46th place overall. Amanda meanwhile recorded a time of 18:49 to finish the Championships in 66th position among the 283 runners.

The Bobcats' sub-varsity squad performed very well on the afternoon with an overall 3rd place finish out of 29 teams. Senior Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) led the way with a 12th place finish and time of 19:12 while sophomore Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) was right behind in 15th place with a time of 19:15. Senior Jill Humphreys (19th place, 19:21), sophomore Ashley Carle (22nd place, 19:26) and senior Kelly Malloy (40th place, 19:45) rounded out the scoring for the sub-varsity group.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Oct. 19, 2013 when it competes in the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
